What They're Saying

Here's a quick comparison of the international edition Chemical Principles and the UT edition of Principles of Chemistry.

First things first, don't be confused by the slight difference in names of these two chemistry books. Although the words in the title may be slightly rearranged, the content of these books is identical. Now, the UT edition Principles of Chemistry is a custom version of the Chemical Principles textbook. That being said, the UT edition also has its own unique ISBN number which differs from both the international edition and the US edition (that has not been customized). One main difference in the UT edition textbook is that its chapters are arranged according to the order in which the professor teaches the course. For example, the chapters are ordered from chapters 1-4 and then jump to chapter 12. The International edition textbook has its chapters in the traditional chronological order. Because the order of the chapters is different, the page number in the textbook will also be different. For example, the chapter 12 in the UT edition textbook is still chapter 12 in the international edition textbook, but the UT edition chapter 12 may appear on a different page number to that of the one in the international textbook since chapter 12 appears after chapter 4 in the UT edition textbook instead of after chapter 11 like that of the international textbook. Another major difference is the appearance of each textbook. The obvious difference when looking at these two textbooks is that the images on the cover are different. The UT edition textbook also does not come bound like normal textbooks. Instead, this edition is bought as a package of papers that needs to be put into a ringed binder (approx. a 3" binder or two 1½" binders). Take note that when buying the UT edition, the binder or binders are not included in the cost of the purchase of these textbooks. That being said, the UT edition textbook has pages in all black and white (similar to that of photocopies) while the International edition textbook comes as a bound book with pages in full color.
